About My Work

My work is for the most part created using non-digital techniques, such as collage and hand drawing. Each piece is hand made and can not be replicated.

 

Inspired by the techniques used for DIY punk zines and flyers in the 80's I started using collage techniques out of neccessity to promote my own events. I didnt have the software or skills to use digitial methods for creating graphics. 

 

As time went on and I learnt my way around digital methods I still shrugged away from these techniques where possible. I saw them as lacking the authenticity and soul of hand made work. It is the minute imperfections which make each piece special. Designers will often try to replicate this aesthetic but lack the patience or technique to attempt to acheieve it non-digitally and end up creating work that appears contrived both visually and conceptually.  

 

This is not to disparage digital techniques. I will often utilise them within my practice. They are often superior for creating certain aesthetics. However if you want work with soul and attitude, nothing beats hand made..
